Proletariat

The proletariat is the social condition of men whose only fortune is measured by their children and their labor power. The proletariat is defined in opposition to the bourgeoisie, the social race which dominates it.

The word “proletarian” originally designated a roman citizen of the plebs so poor that he could only contribute to the state through his descent (proles).

A proletarian is anyone who meets the following criteria :

  • Who has not inherited an annuity sparing him the duty to work ;
  • Who does not feel racially superior to the rest of the people ;
  • Who does not have a large bundle of informal privileges ;
  • Who does not have particular access to a network that spares him the need for skill, luck and professional begging.
